Description

This summer, the University of Amsterdam is hosting Advances in Modal Logic (AiML) (https://events.illc.uva.nl/aiml2026/), which is one of the largest conferences devoted solely to work in modal logic. Taking advantage of this opportunity, we are organizing this project for students interested in studying the latest research in modal logic.

The project will consist of reading 2 papers from the conference according to the student’s interests, attending the presentations of these papers and to do a short interview with one of the authors. The students will then prepare a written report about the papers. The aim is to learn about recent work in modal logic, and to discuss the research with experts in the field.

Organisation

The AiML conference is happening between June 29 and July 3 in Amsterdam. The students are expected to attend the talks of their chosen papers. There will be a meeting in June to discuss the organization of the project and the choice of papers to read. Some meetings/question hours to assist the students while reading through the papers will also be planned. The students can either attend the conference unofficially (sit in on the talks) or register officially for the conference to get a name badge and access to the welcome reception on June 29. Registering officially for the conference costs 30 Euro.

Prerequisites

Since this project will be about studying papers in modal logic, it is expected that the students have taken the Introduction to Modal Logic course.

Assessment

The students will be assessed on a final report about the papers they have read.
