Description

Minimalism about truth is the thesis that the concept of truth is wholly specified by saying that "p is true" is the case iff "p" is the case. We will approach this topic by working through the classic monograph "Truth" by Paul Horwich (OUP, 1999) and some contemporary research papers.

Assessment

Students taking the course for credit will be expected to

  • give a presentation summarising a chapter of Horwich's book or a research paper discussing minimalism about truth; and
  • write a short essay, critically engaging with the course material.
