When & How to Apply

APPLICATION DEADLINES

15 January: for students from countries outside the EU/EEA and all students who wish to apply for UvA scholarships (Amsterdam Merit Scholarship, or E W Beth Scholarship), independently of your country of citizenship;

15 March: for students from EU/EEA countries (including the Netherlands). This deadline only applies to the Master of Logic.

Applications are open on 01 October.  

This page only offers a brief overview of the full application process. Before starting the application procedure please read the official updated application guidelines on the webpage (click here) of the University of Amsterdam.


APPLICATION

  • Check the deadlines and admission requirements

    Before you can apply to the UvA, you will need to submit an enrolment application through Studielink (national enrolment system). You might need a DigiD to access Studielink if you already live in the Netherlands.

    Within 48 hours after submitting your enrolment application in Studielink, you will receive an email with your UvAnetID you can use to complete your UvA application.

    The application requirements, as per the Teaching and Examination Regulation (OER), are:

    1.) relevant undergraduate degree (TER B Article 3.1.2), 

    2.) solid logic background (TER B Article 3.1.3)

    3.) academic excellence (TER B Article 3.1.4), and 

    4.) proof of English language proficiency (TER B Article 3.1.5). 

    Under some circumstances the Admissions Board (AB) might decide to waive requirement 1-3 if the candidate convices the AB that their admission will benefit both the programme and the applicant. Requirement 4 is a formal requirement and cannot be waived.

     
  • Submit your enrolment application in Studielink

    Before applying to UvA, you will need to submit your application via Studielink, the national online enrolment system for a degree programme applicant at a Dutch higher education institute. If you already live in the Netherlands, you will need a DigiD to access Studielink. 

    Within 48 hours after submitting your enrolment request in Studielink, you will receive an email with your UvAnetID which you will need to complete your application at UvA.

     

  • Activate your UvAnetID and submit your application to the UvA in SIS

    Follow the instruction in the email you received upon submitting your application via Studielink. This email also contains information about your application to the UvA in SIS. You will first need to activate your UvAnetID.

    A complete application consists of the following documents (all shall be uploaded in PDF format):

    • A letter of motivation of ca. one page
    • Your CV in English including all your previous education starting with your high school
    • A copy of your Bachelor's transcript*
    • A copy of your Bachelor's diploma/certificate or an official graduation statement*
    • A summary of your Bachelor's thesis/project in English
    • Two email addresses of referees
    • Proof of English proficiency

    *in Dutch, English, French or German and their original language if applicable

    Note that compiling all required documents and completing the application might take several days. We strongly recommend starting the process well in advance. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  • Pay your non-refundable application fee

    The fee of €100 can be paid by a debit/credit card (Visa or Mastercard), PayPal, Bancontact or iDeal/Wero. The payment allows you to submit your application. The fee is non-refundable even if you decide not to submit an application or if you submit after the deadline.

  • After you applied

    The Admissions Board may need to contact you directly in order to ask for additional information and/or clarification. Watch your mailbox and respond promptly to any such requests.

    We aim to inform applicants of our decision within six weeks after the relevant application deadline (see the top of this page).


  • ADMISSION AND ENROLMENT

    Accept of decline the offer

    If you are accepted to the program, you will receive a letter of conditional acceptance. If you decide to proceed, accept the offer in SIS within 2 weeks. If you change your mind, you can withdraw your enrolment request.

    In case you decide to not join the programme, please decline the offer in SIS as well.

    Deference of your admission is not possible.

  • Submit additional (digital) documents 

    Before enroling in the programme, you will need to provide a proof of your previously completed education. 

  • Request your student ID card and arrange other practicalities

    A variety of other practical matters (click here for a compehensive list) will have to be arranged prior to the start of the programme. This includes visa, resident permits, insurance or housing. You will receive all necessary information via email.

    You shall also request a personal ID card. The card will serve as your proof of identity and grant you access to the UvA facilities. Instructions will be shared in an email.

    Additionally, all prospective students will receive communication from the Master of Logic coordinator at the end of June prior to their enrolment.

     

  • Pay the tuition fee

    To finalize your enrolment, you have to pay the tuition fee. For more information about the fees and tuitions, click here.
